#8. Should I rent a car?
A. Yes, we do recommend it. There is a lot to explore in and around Cerritos Beach and Todos Santos. With amazing beaches, art galleries, great restaurants and more, your trip will be more enjoyable if you take advantage of being mobile. There are US rental car companies at the airport, but you will get better rates if you plan ahead. If you choose not to rent a car, you can take a taxi to/from the airport, or we can get you a certified driver. Keep in mind however, there is limited taxi service in our area.
#9. Are the roads safe?
A. Yes, they are safe. We have a new 4 lane highway similar to the US that was completed early summer of 2012. This increased the safety of the road and shortened the trip time from the airport to us and vice versa.
#10. How far is it from the airport to Mayan Village Resort?
A. It is approximately 1 hour. Cerritos Beach is only 40 miles North of Cabo San Lucas on the Pacific Ocean side.
#11. Are there restaurants nearby?
A. Yes, just steps down the beach is the Cerritos Surf Colony Bar & Grill (check out their new organic menu), as well as the Cerritos Beach Club. The Hacienda Hotel also has a Palapa bar on site. Within walking distance of the resort is Miguel´s restaurant and the Tortuga Restaurant. You can also drive into town. El Pescadero is 5 minutes away and Todos Santos is 10 minutes away. Both towns have fantastic restaurants! Definitely try Carlitos restaurant in Pescadero, and Café Santa Fe, Miguels, Tequila Sunrise, and the Hotel California in Todos Santos. Our favorite breakfast spot is The Café Todos Santos.
#12. What is the Cerritos Beach Club?
A. Right between the Hacienda Hotel and the Cerritos Surf Colony is THE Cerritos Beach Club. The Beach Club is right on the sand and serves excellent breakfast, lunch and dinner, it’s open from 7am to 8pm. There is live music, it usually features international jazz singer Deleane Jones. At Cerritos Beach you can also find 2 surf shops, surf lessons, board rentals, surf contests and celebrities such as Rob Lowe, Keith Jardine, Adam Sandler, Tommy Lee, Sammy Hagar, among other, who make Beach Club a fun place to spend the day.
#13. Is there night life?
A. Not much, however you can find live music on the weekends at the Hotel California or the SandBar. Other than that, it is pretty quiet up here on the coast. Outstanding crazy night life it is of course down the road in Cabo (35 minute drive from us).
#14. Is the beach safe?
A. Cerritos Beach is the only safe swimming and surfing beach on the Pacific for hundreds of miles. However, like the ocean anywhere, please use caution!
#15. What about crime?
A. We have all heard the horror stories. With exception of Tijuana, which is 1000 miles north, the Baja is like Hawaii is to the USA, almost a different country. What you see in the news, that’s Mainland Mexico and we are away and far from the rest of the country. Baja is definitely very safe!
#16. Can we pay in dollars?
A. Everywhere accepts dollars. Traveler checks are a thing of the past, and almost everywhere accepts credit cards.
#17. Will my cell phone work?
A. AT&T works very well, Verizon not so well. Please check with your cell phone company to see if there is anything special you should do before you travel. There may be a Mexican rate plan you can have while you are on your trip. There are also prepay cell phones you can buy for $30 dollars, with minutes included that you can get from any cell phone company here in town. Those will work very well and it’s also is very cheap to call the US.
#18. How far away is the closest grocery store?
A. There are vegetable stands and grocery stores 5 minutes away in Pescadero, and 10 minutes away in Todos Santos.
#19. Do I need a passport?
Yes, traveling from almost any country to Mexico requires a passport.
#20. What airport do I fly into?
A. We are located right in the middle of 2 international airports: San Jose del Cabo (SJD) and La Paz International airport (LAP). La Paz is a good option but it doesn’t have as many flights. Most people fly in to San Jose del Cabo.
#21. Is the resort kid friendly?
A. Yes, this is definitely a kid friendly resort.
#22. What kind of kid activities are there?
There is a wonderful salt water pool and the ocean is safe for kids (always use caution in the ocean). There are many activity options including surf lessons, boogie boards, horseback riding, ATV and dune boogies, drinking smoothies at the beach club and WiFi available at Surf Colony. Your kids will love it and you will feel safe!
#23. What about wedding, corporate events, birthday parties, etc.
Events and gatherings are huge hit here. We can assist you with caterers, chefs, event planners, musicians or anything you need. There is an event fee. Please contact us for more information.
#24. What else is there to do?
A. Todos Santos is known for its art galleries, world class cuisine, its historic mission and regional museum, as well as many boutiques and bookstores. Anything you could possibly want is down the road in Cabo where there is a great nightlife, discos, fishing, golf, fine dining, snorkeling, and shopping malls. You can find organic grocery stores (with items for diet restrictions), as well as Starbucks, Costco and Walmart.
#25. What else should I bring?
A. Sunscreen, bathing suit, sunglasses, a hat, sandals, shorts and t-shirts, camera, a good book and maybe your laptop. Bring casual clothing. For girls, shorts and summer dresses work great. For the cooler evenings, a sweater is a good idea; even the nicer restaurants are always semi casual. Just pack for the perfect summer day.
